Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT)
Do you ever feel like you and your partner keep having the same fight or argument over and over? Does it feel like even though you’ve tried to solve your disagreements around parenting, household tasks, sex, or communication you just keep getting stuck? Do you wish you felt connected, emotionally safe, and a deep bond with your partner? Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) is an attachment-based approach to couples therapy that can help!
EFCT works by helping you identify your negative pattern or cycle so you can get unstuck and feel emotionally safe and connected on a deeper level. We will first work on recognizing your cycle when it’s happening and naming it out loud to each other.
Then, we identify the underlying emotions and attachment needs that perpetuate the cycle, and create a safe space to share these emotions with each other. I will help you practice talking to each other about these deeper emotions and longings in a vulnerable way that brings you closer together rather than pushing you apart.
Practicing this in session will make it feel easier to have these conversations outside of therapy. You will then be able to talk more openly about your concerns, ask for what you need, and feel that deep, loving connection you’ve been longing for.
EFCT has a large body of research backing up its effectiveness as an approach to couple therapy. I have seen EFCT work beautifully in my practice with couples and I believe it can work for you, too! I have advanced, specialized training in EFCT and am officially certified as an EFCT therapist. I have spent hundreds of hours doing training, supervision, consultation and self-study with this approach; I really believe in it!
